Books. Life. Wonder.

For quite sometime now I have been on the hunt for a cover artist. I am looking to hire local artists to complete my latest project, The Ascension Trilogy. I have found a Canadian editor and book designer. The cover artist seems to be a tricky one. I have a few ideas on what I am looking for my cover, but I am not an artist. Colour matching and style are a few of my weak points. I can write it, but creating an actual picture isn’t in my skill house. I would love to hire someone that is the right fit for my trilogy. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. And, I think it is important to know where to delegate task due to those weaknesses.
The quest for an artist wasn’t meant to be this long. I checked many websites and asked though my social media posts. I was shocked when people reached out saying, I’m not Canadian or local, but here’s my portfolio. Some of them hit many of the marks I was looking for, but missed the biggest point. The unnegotiable box that needed to be checked. I know that it sounds like I am limiting myself. I think it is important to help my local artists during this time. A lot of people at the moment are cutting back spending, and this mean that the local artist might be finding it hard to support themselves and create their work. I want to help them fulfil their dream as best I can.
Where does that leave me now?
I am thinking of reaching out to my local collages and reach out to the art programs. There are quite a few in my province that might have a student willing to take on the task. If I haven’t found someone I jive with by January, then in the new year I will start calling the art programs. I think it is important to give the students opportunities that will fluff up their portfolios. They’ll also have a fresh take on the new programs and tools. There is a hard no on AI usage in all of my work. Other then that I am open to the artists opinion. My cover will be what introduces the reader to The Ascension Trilogy. I want the cover to pop and grab the readers attention, make them feel like the story inside it to good to pass up. When Wicked Soul Ascension is released it will be the first to the trilogy and it needs to make an instant impact. No pressure or anything, I know. I hope that whoever takes on the task will be the right fit for the job.
