Sample Edit Completed

This morning I opened my email to the completed sample edit of Mortal Soul Ascension. I had found an editor on TikTok. I was skeptical, for good reason. I have such a distrust now adays with finding peoples aid online. I have been scammed before, I know of people who’ve been scammed, and I am try to keep up with all the bookish hot topics so I’m in the know so it’s been scary hiring help. When I reached out to this editor I was pretty unsure. Just as I have been unsure about getting a cover artist, book designer, and all the things I know other people can do better. I know I need an editor. That’s number one on my must haves. I can play with words and paint some nice pictures with them, but the editors help me fine tune the craft. Give me a glance at what I need help on and foresight on what a reader might think or see.

The sample edit:
There was a note written at the bottom. As soon as the document opened, I scrolled down to read it. I will ask her if I can share it. It highlighted the good and the bad. Where I am skilled and where those skills can be polished. Also, where I need more practice. I know I am not the perfect writer. I don’t want to be. I love learning and exploring new ways to develop my craft. Her letter highlighted all of this. It was nice, and told me she paid attention to what I had poured my heart into. The edits reflected what she said in the letter. She helped me where I was drastically lacking. And then, she complemented where my writing shined. Most importantly, she called me out when I was confusing. I always try to think from the readers perspective. Did I show the world, scene, character in the right? She even left comments that fumbled out of her head. And that to me was needed. It let me know how a reader views that scene. I can play the movie of my book in my head all I want, but if the reader can not see it in their mind… what’s the point? I think she did a fantastic job editing the first three chapters. I reached out to her to see if she will take on my manuscript.
